MK Dons have signed winger, Samuel Silvera on a free transfer.
Silvera’s move comes just a month after he was released by Middlesbrough following a three-year spell, in which he netted eight goals in 65 appearances across all competitions.
He however spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Portsmouth then Blackpool, across which he only managed one goal in 27 combined appearances.
MK Dons Head Coach, Paul Warne has welcomed Silvera’s arrival after having “pursued” him all summer given his attacking qualities out wide.
“He’s a utility attacking player who can play wing back on either side and also a winger either side and he has actually played fullback on occasion too.
“So, he’s someone who’s quick, wants to take people on and brings a bit more competition along the front line for us, which is great, and he has also been playing at a Championship level.
“All the research we did on him with his teammates came back glowing.”
Warne added that he even retorted to FaceTime and then face-to-face discussions with Silvera to tie the transfer deal up, and is now happy to have him at the club.
“I also FaceTimed him a few weeks ago and then met him about a week ago as well.
“After that, it was just a matter of tying the deal together. I’m really pleased to have him on board, and we welcome him to the club.
“I’m also looking forward to getting him as fit as we can, as quick as we can and we look forward to including him in the training sessions starting tomorrow.”
MK Dons’ Sporting Director, Liam Sweeting added that Silvera has the attacking qualities needed to add impact within the squad.
“Sam is a really exciting player with attributes that we believe can have a real impact on our squad. He’s an excellent ball carrier with high energy, athleticism and attacking quality.
“On top of that, he’s capable of playing as a wing-back on either side, as a winger on either flank and has even shown he can contribute through the middle as a striker when required. Those qualities give Paul genuine flexibility across a number of positions.
“Beyond his footballing ability, Sam is joining an ambitious group that is hungry to improve and compete.
“We believe he’ll thrive in that environment and further strengthen the options available to Paul as we continue building a squad capable of challenging at the top end of the division.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Sam into the building, helping him settle quickly and seeing him make a positive contribution in an MK Dons shirt.”
Silvera began his career at Western Sydney Wanderers where he scored four goals in 30 appearances then joined Central Gold Mariners for a season, which saw him score twice in 25 appearances to earn a move to Portugal’s Pacos de Ferreira, where he made no senior appearances.
He however enjoyed loans at Casa Pia, A.D. Sanjoanense and Newcastle Jets before he returned to Central Gold Mariners for the 2022-23 season, a move which proved vital to reigniting his form with eight goals in 29 appearances and led to his move to Middlesbrough.
