Brighton & Hove Albion have signed defender, Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur in a £50m transfer deal.

Vuskovic’s move has come after a single season at Tottenham in which he was an unused substitute in their opening three matches of the last campaign, before he was loaned to Hamburger SV where he scored six goals in 30 appearances.

His performances led Tottenham to try and keep him amidst interest from several European teams but Brighton managed to persuade the 19 year-old Croatian of how he fitted in with their plans, which saw him commit to a five-year contract until June 2031.

Tottenham eventually accepted a £50m bid after extensive negotiations, which consisted of a £46m fixed fee plus £4m in add-on clauses that would bring the total fee to £50m.

Brighton’s Head Coach, Fabian Hurzeler has iterated that Vuskovic will need time to adapt to his new environment but is keen to help the youngster build on his potential.

“Luka has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career – it’s one we’ve followed closely.

“Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level and we want to help him build on that within our environment.

“There’s been a lot of external noise about Luka joining us, but he is still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League. We are confident that he will take this in his stride though.”

Vuskovic began his senior career at Croatia’s Hadjuk Split where he scored one goal in 11 appearances before he enjoyed loans at Poland’s Radomiak Radom then Belgium’s Westerlo, of which he managed 10 goals in 50 total appearances combined across both loan spells.
