Deon Woodman is “excited” to make the move up to League One with Bromley following his transfer from Wealdstone.
Woodman is Bromley’s sixth signing of the transfer window in a boost to the defensive selection as he makes the move up from National League to League One.
The 23 year-old is therefore “excited” to make the step up two divisions as he spoke of his happiness at the transfer in his first interview with Bromley’s YouTube channel.
“I’m just excited obviously to get it over the line. I’m excited to be here, see everyone. It’s really welcoming here. That’s the first thing I’ve encountered here, so yeah.”
Deon also explained that fans can expect hard graft across the pitch from him with little excuses as he described Bromley as like a familial club with a homely vibe.
“For me it’s I want to bring my work ethic. I work hard. Um I don’t like making excuses either. So, the main thing is I like to get on the ball as well. All playing centre-half. Um so anyway if it’s my passing range. Clip it into the strikers, channels, whatever it can be to help the team. That’s what I can bring.”
“Again, when I spoke to the club, it felt like a family more than just a football club. I think that was the main thing that drew me in. I like being in a place where it feels like home. And that’s that was the main part for me.”
Many players and fans alike noticed that the fact that Deon shares his surname with manager, Andy Woodman, but the defender has refused to rule out a possible blood relation as he light-heartedly quipped that he hasn’t researched the possibility.
“I’m not too sure. I ain’t researched it, but maybe, who knows.”
Deon began his career at Brentford Kicks before he went on to have spells at Crystal Palace and QPR, of which he spent time on loan at Dulwich Hamlet which he believed was an education into men’s football for himself.
“Yeah, 100%. Obviously, I think playing at Dulwich was my first loan, so it taught me a lot about men’s football. And then going on to let’s say Wealdstone and Southend on loan, um taught me a lot about football like you need to earn the right to play.”
Whilst at Dulwich Hamlet, Deon played alongside Bromley’s now Head of Athletic Performance, Jack Holland, and was pleased to now reunite with his old teammate at the CopperJax Stadium.
“Yeah, it was good to see him. Obviously I haven’t seen him since obviously the Dulwich loan, but to see him again, it was just put a smile on my face.
Deon is capped at international senior level for Kenya after he made his debut in a 4-0 friendly win over Lesotho in June 2026, and the 23 year-old is proud to have represented his country.
“Yeah, it was what an honour it was to get my first call up to play a game out there as well, and get a 4-0 win. It was a surreal feeling that I couldn’t explain it.”
Deon concluded with a message to supporters expressing his excitement for the season and seeing them at various matches across the season.
“Um it’s going to be an exciting year. Um I look forward to seeing you home and away.”
