2026 FIFA World Cup: Round of 16 – Switzerland vs Colombia

Switzerland meet Colombia in the concluding tie of the Round of 16 stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Victory would see Switzerland qualify for the Quarter-Finals for the first time since 1954, whilst Colombia will hope to reach that stage for just the second time – having first done so in 2014.

Team News

Luca Jaquez is a doubt for Switzerland after he sat out their 2-0 win in the Round of 32 over Algeria due to a muscle injury.

Silvan Widmer (hip) and Michel Aebischer (muscle) are minor doubts but largely expected to be named on the teamsheet.

Colombia will be without forward, Jhon Cordoba after he suffered an adductor injury in the eighth minute of their eventual 1-0 victory over Ghana.

When is Kick-Off?

Switzerland meet Colombia at BC Place, Vancouver, Canada, on Tuesday 7 July at 1pm PT, live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Prediction

Having clinically dispatched Algeria in the last round with a comfortable performance, Switzerland really should fancy their chances here because they clearly have plenty of goal threats capable of troubling Colombia if they continue to produce the quality they’re currently doing.

Colombia however do have a robustly resilient defence coupled with a clinical attack and I don’t see them making any changes, which will probably force Switzerland to be more creative if they’re to win this tie.

I however do think that this is too close to call so am going for a Swiss victory on penalties.

Prediction: Switzerland 1-1 Colombia (Switzerland to win on penalties)

Result: Switzerland 0-0 Colombia (Switzerland win 4-3 on penalties)
