2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosts, USA look to extend their run as they face Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
USA progressed to this stage as Group A winners, whilst Bosnia & Herzegovina advanced as the fifth-best third-placed team after they finished third in Group B.
Team News
USA have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 3-2 loss to Turkey, with manager – Mauricio Pochettino set to recall several regulars who were rested in that match.
Mark McKenzie (foot), Christian Roldan (muscle) and Auston Trusty (ankle) are minor doubts but largely expected to be available for selection.
Bosnia could be without defender, Amar Dedic due to a thigh strain, which saw him feature as an unused substitute in their 3-1 victory over Qatar.
Tarik Muharemovic however is back in contention after he was suspended against Qatar.

USA face Bosnia & Herzegovina at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, on Wednesday 1 July at 5pm PDT (1am BST, Thursday 2 July), live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is USA’s first World Cup meeting against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
- Bosnia & Herzegovina are yet to beat USA in all competitions (D1, L2).
- USA’s Sebastian Berhalter, Alex Freeman and Gio Reyna have all converted their single shots on target into goals at this tournament.
- Two of Bosnia & Herzegovina’s four goals in the Group Stage were scored by Ermin Mahmic.
Prediction
With Pochettino having had the luxury of resting key players in their defeat to Turkey, USA at least have fresh legs but need to make sure that loss was simply an one-off and get straight back on to their attacking best, as this is a great chance to reach the Round of 16.
Bosnia & Herzegovina though already know what it is like to face a tournament co-host after they battled to a 1-1 draw in their opening game against Canada, yet USA is probably like Switzerland in terms of comparable quality so they need to be as clinical as they were against Qatar to stand any chance.
I however do think that USA do have the quality needed to edge this especially in front of their home crowd who will add extra motivation.
