2026 FIFA World Cup: Group I – Senegal vs Iraq

Senegal meet Iraq to determine which team finished third in Group I at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Senegal will finish third in the group if they avoid defeat, whilst Iraq must win to stand any chance of qualifying as one of the eight best third-placed teams.

Team News

Edouard Mendy is ruled out for Senegal after he suffered a knee injury during their 3-2 loss to Norway.

Iraq could be without forward, Aymen Hussein due to a knock suffered in their 3-0 loss to France.

When is Kick-Off?

Senegal meet Iraq at BMO Field, Toronto, Canada, on Friday 26 June at 3pm EDT (8pm BST), live on ITV4 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Senegal’s first World Cup meeting against Iraq.
  • Iraq have never met Senegal before in all competitions.
  • Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr has scored two goals from his three shots converted onto target.
  • Iraq has scored their only goal of the tournament from their only shot on target, having managed 15 total shots in their two matches so far.

Prediction

Needing just one point to realistically secure a knockout spot, Senegal are favourites but after two sloppy second-half defensive displays they really need to knuckle down and deliver a strong performance to keep their tournament hopes alive.

Iraq meanwhile have absolutely nothing to lose after they conceded seven goals and scored once in their first two matches, so I do hope that they at least can tighten up and bring some more attacking fight as this is a chance to finish third irrespective of their fate.

I however do think that Senegal have enough in them for a routine win.

Prediction: Senegal 2-0 Iraq

Result: Senegal 5-0 Iraq
