Forward, Matty Godden has signed a new one-year contract at Charlton Athletic until June 2027.
Godden’s contract renewal comes after he scored 24 goals and created one assist in 60 appearances in all competitions across the last two seasons since he arrived in summer 2024, although he was limited to two goals in 11 appearances in the recent campaign due to injuries.
The 34 year-old now is eager is to kick on for the new season following his decision to extend his stay at The Valley.
“It’s something that I was really keen to get done and I’m just glad it’s sorted now. My conversations with the gaffer have been really positive and he wanted me around the place.
“Unfortunately I missed out on scoring in front of the Covered End last year. My two goals came away from home, so that’s something that I can’t wait for. To hear my name sung, like it is every week, will be special.”
Charlton Manager, Nathan Jones added that he is “delighted” to retain Godden who he feels has been integral in their promotion and subsequent consolidation of their Championship status.
“He’s been instrumental in our progression since he came to the football club. Last year was a tough season for him and a frustrating one in terms of the injuries he had, but he still came back and showed that when he does play, he impacts significantly.
“Matty’s an important part of the culture and the environment. I know he still has goals in him and that’s why we wanted to extend his stay at the football club.”
Charlton’s Managing Director, James Rodwell is “really pleased” to see Godden stay for another season as he praised the forward for his attitude throughout his time at the South London club.
“His experience and professionalism has made him an important part of our continued progress, and he’s scored some vital goals during his time with us. He’s hungry to play more games and score more goals, and we’re looking forward to seeing him fit, firing and ready to go for the season ahead.”
