Tottenham Hotspur have signed Scottish forward, Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.
Hanson’s move has ended her four-year stint at Villa after she initially spent 2022-23 season on loan before she made her move permanent in summer 2023, and has gone on to produce 26 goals and 16 assists across her four seasons with the Villains.
The 28 year-old now is excited to embark on a new chapter under Tottenham Women’s Head Coach, Martin Ho, with the club making strides in their competitiveness.
“I’m absolutely delighted, it’s an exciting time to be a part of this Club. I’m ready for a new challenge, and I’m always wanting to be better every single day. Martin, the Club, the staff, the players are at such an exciting point – and I want to be a part of that.”
Ho added that Hanson will bring experience and quality which he wants within his forward selection, alongside the ability to play out wide when required to add more tactical variety to his playing options.
“Kirsty is a player with proven quality in the WSL and someone who has consistently shown she can affect games at this level. She brings pace, energy, directness and real threat in the final third, but also the work ethic and intensity we want in our attacking players.
“She played a lot of her football last season as a centre forward, while also having the ability to play wide, and that versatility is really important for us in how we want to attack.
“We want players in the front line who can rotate, threaten different spaces, press with intensity and give us different solutions during games.
“Kirsty can stretch teams in behind, attack one-v-one, arrive in goal-scoring areas and also help connect the game when playing more centrally. That flexibility gives us more ways to hurt teams and allows us to be less predictable as an attacking team.”
Ho previously worked with Hanson during their time at Manchester United and can’t wait to work with her again to develop her game further.
“I know Kirsty well from working with her previously, and I know the qualities she brings both as a player and as a person. She has strong experience in the league, international experience with Scotland and a clear hunger to keep pushing her game forward.
“We are delighted she has chosen to come to Tottenham Hotspur, and I’m excited to work with her again in an environment where we believe she can continue to develop, contribute and become an important player for this Club.”
