2025-26 Premier League: Week 35 – Leeds vs Burnley

Leeds United look to close in on Premier League survival in a clash against Burnley.

Victory would lift Leeds up to 14th although they can go 13th if win by four or more goals, whilst their safety would be confirmed on Sunday 3 May if Tottenham lose at Aston Villa.

Team News

Noah Okafor is a doubt for Leeds after he suffered a calf injury during their FA Cup semi-final exit against Chelsea.

Jaka Bijol (hip) is also considered a doubt but Gabriel Gudmundsson (hamstring) and Ilia Gruev (knee) are ruled out.

Burnley have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-0 league loss to Manchester City.

Axel Tuanzebe (Achilles), Hannibal Mejbri (thigh) and Zeki Amdouni (knee) face late fitness tests, but Josh Cullen (ACL), Conor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Leeds host Burnley at Elland Road on Friday 1 May at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have lost one of five previous Premier League meetings against Burnley (W3, D1, L1).
  • Burnley have lost both of their two previous Premier League trips to Leeds (L2), having suffered a 1-0 defeat in December 2020 then 3-1 loss in January 2022.
  • A win would see Burnley do the league double over Leeds for the first time since 2013-14 season.
  • Leeds are looking to keep three consecutive clean sheets at home since April – August 2025.
  • Maxime Esteve has played more successful short passes than any other Burnley player this season, having completed 1023 short passes in 31 appearances.

Prediction

Having produced a wasteful display at Wembley Stadium against a resiliently dogged Chelsea defence, Leeds need to be much sharper, accurate and clinical in their end product because this is a chance to virtually secure safety which would be a big achievement for Daniel Farke.

Burnley meanwhile will of been disappointed to had not snatched a draw against a largely wasteful Man City because they otherwise produced a strong fight which was frustrated by Gianluigi Donnarumma’s saves, whilst Martin Dubravka was superb at the other end.

This match though is a free hit for the Clarets now that their relegation is official so I expect them to experiment with one eye on next season, but the lure of a league double will motivate them although Leeds should have enough quality to snatch the win.

Prediction: Leeds 2-1 Burnley

Result: Leeds 3-1 Burnley
