Icelandic goalkeeper, Hakon Valdimarsson has signed a new contract at Brentford until June 2030, with a two-year extension option.

Since his arrival at Brentford in January 2024, Valdimarsson has made 12 appearances in all competitions as second-choice goalkeeper behind Caoimhin Kelleher, with Brentford Head Coach Keith Andrews “delighted” to see the 24-year old sign his new contract.

Andrews however proceeded to silence any critics of the decision to give Valdimarsson a four-year contract until June 2030 with a further two-year option until June 2032, as he explained that Hakon has formed a key role at the club in pushing Kelleher’s development.

“People maybe don’t recognise what goes on behind the scenes, and the importance of some of the players who are part of this journey; Hákon is a big part of the fabric of this football club, and he understands it.

“He’s a very liked individual, he’s got some very close connections within the club, he’s an outstanding goalkeeper – we’ve seen that when he’s played this season – and we’re really happy that he’s signed a new deal.”
