Wolves Relegated to Championship After West Ham Held at Palace

Wolves have been relegated to the Championship after West Ham played out a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

In a low-quality contest, Ismaila Sarr seemingly netted a 82nd-minute winner for Palace but his goal was disallowed due to a handball from Jean-Philippe Mateta which set up the Senegalese forward’s finish.

Nevertheless, Palace and West Ham remained 13th and 17th in the table, with the Hammers’ point having officially relegated rock-bottom Wolves to the Championship.

Aware that victory would move them four points clear of the relegation zone, West Ham received two early scares in the opening 20 minutes as Jorgen Strand Larsen flicked a seventh-minute cross wide, before Brennan Johnson headed wide 13 minutes later.

Johnson then fired wide in the 26th minute as Palace continued to lack a clinical final touch.

West Ham eventually created their first clear-cut opportunity in the 31st minute of an evenly-matched contest as Axel Disasi fired a shot over the bar.

Konstantinos Mavropanos then saw a 44th-minute header saved by Dean Henderson as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers began to test Palace’s defence more before the break.

Palace however reminded their East-London visitors of their threat just two minutes later as Tyrick Mitchell dragged a low shot wide of the bottom right corner.

Neither team improved in a low-quality second half until Valentin Castellanos forced a 79th-minute save from Henderson with a scruffy tightly-angled high shot.

That save almost proved costly as just three minutes later, Sarr fired Palace in front with a close-range strike from Mateta’s flicked touch, only for the goal to be disallowed immediately after referee – Darren England noticed that the assist came off Mateta’s right hand.

Both teams eventually settled for a draw which left West Ham sat two points above the relegation zone, and relegated Wolves in the process.
