Bromley forward, George Evans has described his maiden senior goal as a “mad” achievement.

Evans netted a 101st-minute equaliser to rescue Bromley a 2-2 draw at Barnet, after Nicke Kabamba initially opened the scoring before Phillip Chinedu and Kabongo Tshimanga put the Bees ahead from behind despite Danny Collinge’s red card for an elbow on Omar Sowunmi.

The 18-year old forward post-match spoke to Bromley’s YouTube channel about his “mad” first senior goal, but humbly iterated that he was simply taking an opportunity that many children dream of achieving.

“You know what? I haven’t to be honest. It’s like it’s mad. All everything comes at once. But listen, as I’ve said to everyone else, you’ve got to take those opportunities. You know you don’t get them often. Um, every kid dreams of it. So I’m just lucky to be in this position.”

He added that he couldn’t remember his goal as he continued: “You know what? I’ve looked at my phone. I’ve been sent a few videos of it but honestly, I could not remember.

“I just remember me going think going my mind’s just gone blank. I’m just thinking I’m going straight to that corner. When the ball’s come to me, I’ll be honest I thought I skyed it.

“Um but listen as a striker when balls come in around the box expected to finish it.”

1352 Bromley made the trek across the UK capital to witness Evans’ dramatic goal alongside his family and were left chanting his name at full time, which left him chuffed as he again reflected on what kids dream about if wish to become a footballer.

“It’s hearing that. It’s a kid’s dream. Do you know what I mean? Hearing the fans chant your name. What a turnout it was as well by the way. So thank you to the away fans. But yeah and then obviously little mention to my mum, dad and sister. Obviously they’ve supported me my whole career.

“They’ve took me everywhere. They’ve took me home, away, absolutely everywhere. They’ve been through the highs, they’ve been through the lows. And to see them proud, to see them. My mum screaming her red off.”

“Yeah, they honestly they’re out every game. And it’s like seeing their faces, it’s nothing better than that. You can’t beat it.”

Evans has been part of the senior matchday squad for the last four matches now following Michael Cheek’s hamstring injury, but he is aware of how tough football is after having endured a disrupted season caused by injury and loan spells at Welling United and Faversham Town before his Ravens debut in a 2-1 loss at Barrow last weekend.

“Listen, nothing in football comes easy. Everyone knows that. Um obviously an injury to start of year, it’s been really soft start. Um but no I’m happy to be back now. Obviously fitting in with a group coming in a couple of weeks ago get my chance on the bench coming on last week.

“I’m just taking step by step as it comes and yeah just hoping we carry on this run now. Get a bit of a run going, get a couple of three points then yeah the league is ours.”

Evans proceeded to address the importance of their draw to stay five points clear at the top of League Two after MK Dons were held to a goalless draw at home against Barrow, as he feels that every point matters throughout the table.

“100 no 100%. Um every point is massive in this league. It’s so competitive. People look at the table and think a few boys are down low and a few but it’s so competitive and you can’t look at the tables. Um we are where we are. Um every team wants to beat us and I don’t blame them. But this yeah, it’s a massive point. Huge.”

Evans is the latest graduate of Bromley’s academy to establish himself within the senior set-up but he is thankful of the programme’s work to help him come through into the first team.

“No, I can’t thank the academy enough. Do you know what I mean? I’ve come through started at JPL. Uh come through the scholar system when we were a college programme. Obviously the club went up. Um come through the academy last year and yeah, no we’ve come a long way as a club academy wise.

“Um obviously you’ve seen it with some of the boys have come through and yeah, I’m just hoping to carry that on really.”

Whilst it is easy for a young player to get caught up in the excitement of the future, Evans’ feet is firmly focused on Bromley’s home match against Shrewsbury on Tuesday 7 April and promotion to League One.

“100%. Listen, you got to take day by day. Um just hoping for another three points on Tuesday. Really, this is done. We’ve got our point. Um but we’ve still got the eyes on prize and we want to be in League One next year. So, um yeah, we take it Tuesday, Shrewsbury at home, three points and then we go from there.”
