Poppy Pattinson has received her first senior call-up for England’s 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers against Ukraine and Iceland.

Pattinson’s call-up comes after a strong first season at London City Lionesses for the 25-year-old left-back who hails from Houghton-le Spring.

Hannah Hampton meanwhile has been recalled in goal after she missed November’s friendly wins over China and Ghana due to injury, with Anna Moorhouse and late replacement, Ellie Roebuck having retained their spots as Sophie Baggaley and Khiara Keating have been left out.

Jess Carter is back in defence after manager, Sarina Wiegman allowed her to miss the recent international window and rest up after a busy 2025 for the defender, with Chelsea’s Niamh Charles omitted from the squad due to an ankle injury.

Leah Williamson returns after she was absent from the last squad due to a knee injury, in place of Anouk Denton who has moved to USA’s Bay FC.

Midfielders, Missy Bo Kearns and Ella Toone plus forward, Beth Mead have been left out of the squad due to injuries with no replacements called up for the trio.

Explaining her squad selection, Wiegman revealed that she is expecting fresh tests for the team this year with their target being to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“It’s a new year with new objectives, as we start our qualification journey with these two very important fixtures against Ukraine and Iceland. We want to start our campaign off in the best possible way and will need to be at a top level as we face two different challenges.

“This is new opposition for this England team, so that’s exciting too. I am looking forward to being back with the squad and getting back to work.”

“As always we’re grateful to the fans for their support. A big crowd in Nottingham in a historic stadium will be really special, but we can’t look too far ahead and our full focus first will be on our opening fixture.”

England will visit Ukraine on Tuesday 3 March at Mardan Sports Complex, Aksu, Turkey, in a 8pm TRT (5pm GMT) kick-off, before they host Iceland on Saturday 7 March at 12:30pm at the City Ground, Nottingham, with both fixtures broadcast live across ITV and ITVX.
