Sunderland look to extend their home form against relegation-battling Burnley in a Premier League encounter.
Victory would lift Sunderland up to eighth in the table, whilst Burnley will remain second bottom irrespective of the result.
Team News
Sunderland have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 3-1 loss at West Ham.
Bertrand Traore (knee), Jocelin Ta Bi, Granit Xhaka and Arthur Masuaku (all ankle) remain absent.
Burnley have no fresh injury concerns after their 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham, as Zian Flemming and Joe Worrall look set to return from knocks which sidelined the pair in recent weeks.
Zeki Amdouni (knee), Josh Cullen (ACL), Conor Roberts (Achilles), Mike Tresor (ankle) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Sunderland host Burnley at the Stadium of Light on Monday 2 February at 8pm GMT, live on Sky Sports’ Main Event and Premier League channels.
Stat Attack
- Sunderland have won just one of their last five meetings against Burnley (W1, D2, L2).
- Burnley have won just one of their last 12 league visits to Sunderland (W1, D3, L8).
- Burnley are looking to claim consecutive wins over Sunderland for the first time since 1972-73 season.
- Sunderland are the only Premier League club yet to lose at home this season (W6, D5).
- Burnley have lost two of their last seven matches (D5, L2).
Prediction
Having experienced a league game without Xhaka at the helm of midfield for the first time this season, Sunderland looked bereft of leadership and control at West Ham so a huge improvement is needed as he won’t be available again here.
Burnley meanwhile seem to have found their groove lately but defending remains their Achilles heel because they should of shut up shop once 2-1 up against Spurs, yet they allowed them to snatch a late draw through a moment of timid marking.
There is however no doubting that Burnley’s attack has improved but if their defence continues to be as sloppy as it is, I don’t see them winning on Wearside as Sunderland will surely produce a strong reaction to their defeat in East London given their home record.
Prediction: Sunderland 2-1 Burnley
