2025-26 League One: Week 28 – Lincoln City vs Burton Albion

Lincoln City host Burton Albion in a huge Sky Bet League One clash affecting both ends of the table.

Victory or a draw would see Lincoln City stay second for another matchweek, whilst Burton can climb to 15th with a win but a winning margin of four goals or more would lift them into 14th until the weekend.

Team News

Lincoln City have no fresh injury concerns after their 2-2 draw at Luton, but new loan signing – Alfie Lloyd is available for selection.

Adam Jackson (unspecified) and Ben House (knee) are nearing a first-team return but are unlikely to be available, with manager – Michael Skubala not keen to rush either player back into the matchday squad until they are fit enough for selection.

James Collins (ACL), Oscar Thorn (ankle), Josh Honohan (muscle) and Tom Bayliss (unspecified) remain absent.

Burton could welcome Alex Hartridge back into contention following his recovery from a concussion.

Finn Delap (knee), James Jones (foot/knee) and Charlie Webster (ankle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Lincoln City host Burton at LNER Stadium on Thursday 22 January at 8pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Lincoln City have lost one of their last five league meetings against Burton Albion (W4, L1).
  • Burton Albion have won their last four visits to Lincoln City (L4).
  • Lincoln City have lost their last three home meetings against Burton by 1-0 results.
  • Freddie Draper has scored in each of Lincoln City’s last two matches (W1, D1).
  • Burton are chasing consecutive league victories for the first time since November 2025.

Prediction

Having blown a 2-0 lead at Luton through some poor loose marking late in the first half, Lincoln City will be keen to atone for their blunder with a much better defensive effort because they definitely have the attacking quality to stop their home rut against Burton.

Burton meanwhile seemed to benefit from their FA Cup Third-Round victory at Boreham Wood because they certainly were more clinical in their 3-1 victory over Huddersfield, which was a marked contrast to their three previous league outings beforehand and they do have a solid recent away record here to give more belief.

I however do feel that Lincoln City will be too strong them for in terms of attacking power but the Brewers should have a fair chance to nick a goal, particularly given the Imps’ defensive vulnerability.

Prediction: Lincoln City 3-1 Burton Albion

Result: Lincoln City 2-1 Burton Albion
