Bromley Football Club have publicly slammed racial abuse of striker, Nicke Kabamba in the wake of their goalless draw at Chesterfield.

Kabamba saw a 89th-minute penalty saved by Chesterfield’s Zach Hemming as the League Two leaders played out a goalless result at the SMH Group Stadium yesterday (17 January), but received subsequent racial abuse on social media from fans post-match.

Bromley have tonight (18 January) released a statement in which they called out the abuse and vowed to provide full support to Kabamba.

“Following Saturday’s draw at Chesterfield, we were absolutely sickened to read vile racist online comments aimed at one of our players, Nicke Kabamba.

“We were then informed by Nicke that he had received further direct messages of the same nature too.

“We have reported these accounts to the relevant platforms and they will also be passed on to the police.

“Nicke, you have our full support.”

“Actions of this manner simply do not belong in our society, let alone the sport we all love.”

“Unfortunately, as a football club, we can’t change the way people think. However, we can use our status and platform to continue to fight for those who are subject to such vile and cowardly abuse.

Bromley proceeded to address the 32-year-old forward directly as they pledged their support and paid tribute to his impact at the club and to fans, and vowed to stand by anyone who is subjected to abuse.

“Nicke, since arriving at the football club, you have been a fantastic asset. Not only as a footballer, but as a human. A hero to our supporters and a friend to everyone at Bromley Football Club.

“We will continue to support and stand by Nicke and any other player, staff or supporter who are subject to any type of abuse.”

Bromley have also urged supporters to report any discrimination to www.bromleyfc.co.uk/report.
