Relegation-battling Wolves face a huge Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at Molineux.
Wolves will remain bottom regardless of the result, whilst Newcastle can climb to fifth with a win.
Team News
Wolves could welcome Tawanda Chirewa (illness) and Emmanuel Agbadou (international duty) back into contention.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Toti Gomes (both hamstring) and Leon Chiwone (ACL) remain ruled out.
Newcastle will be without Jacob Murphy after he suffered a hamstring injury during their first-leg semi-final defeat against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Dan Burn (rib/lung), Jamaal Lascelles (muscle), Emil Krafth (knee), Tino Livramento (hamstring) Fabian Schar and William Osula (both ankle) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Wolves host Newcastle at Molineux on Sunday 17 January at 2pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Wolves are winless in their last eight meetings against Newcastle (D2, L6).
- Newcastle have lost one of their last 10 top-flight trips to Wolves (W2, D7, L1).
- Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet at home against Newcastle in their last 12 clashes at Molineux in all competitions, having last done so in a 1-0 First Division victory in April 1993.
- Mateus Mane has scored in Wolves’ last two league games (W1, D1).
- Just one of Bruno Guimaraes’ eight league goals for Newcastle this season were scored away from St James’ Park.
Prediction
Having found some momentum lately and ruthlessly dispatched Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, Wolves do seem to have turned a corner but they will now need to just keep building upon each performance because there is clear signs of progress despite their survival chances looking very unlikely.
Newcastle meanwhile just lacked the clinical final touch to snatch anything against Man City so this does feel like the ideal game for them to regroup, such is their away form at Molineux ahead of a tough end to the month.
On that note, this clash does feel slightly tougher to call than it looked a few weeks ago but I do expect Newcastle to bounce back and edge this if they can take their chances better.
Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Newcastle
Result: Wolves 0-0 Newcastle
