Liverpool look to retain control of the final Champions League qualification spot as they face relegation-battling Burnley.
Victory would see Liverpool stay fourth in the table, whilst Burnley can climb to 18th in the table with a win if West Ham fail to beat Tottenham in North London.
Team News
Rio Ngumoha is a doubt for Liverpool after he suffered cramp during their FA Cup third-round victory over Barnsley.
Alex Isak (leg), Mohamed Salah (international duty), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remain absent.
Burnley could welcome Joe Worrall (knock) and Lyle Foster (illness) back into contention.
Zian Flemming (knock), Zeki Amdouni (knee), Josh Cullen (ACL), Conor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool host Burnley at Anfield on Saturday 17 January at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have won each of their last six meetings against Burnley (W6).
- Burnley have won just one of nine previous Premier League trips to Liverpool at Anfield (W1, D2, L6).
- Liverpool have kept clean sheets in three of their last four meetings against Burnley, except for a 3-1 home win in February 2024.
- Two of Liverpool’s last three league matches have ended in 0-0 draws, whilst they were also held to a 2-2 draw at Fulham in this period.
- Just four of Burnley’s 13 points this season were claimed away from home (W1, D1, L8).
Prediction
Despite their ruthless but expectedly comfortable home win over Barnsley in the FA Cup, Liverpool’s defensive issues remain under scrutiny after a careless mistake from Dominik Szoboszlai allowed the Tykes to equalise before half time so this is a chance to atone against a struggling team.
Burnley though will come to Anfield off the back of a clinical display at home to Millwall despite eight changes in that tie in their strongest performance in ages, but this is much tougher opposition so the pressure will be on their defence and returning regulars to try and keep Liverpool quiet.
I however just don’t see the Clarets getting anything from this game as Liverpool should really have too much quality for their defence to cope with.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley
Result: Liverpool 1-1 Burnley
