Roundup of latest Sky Bet Championship action as the top two began to pull away from the hunting pack. 

Coventry ended their two-match winless streak with a clinical victory at home to Bristol City through a 64th-minute winner from Ephron Mason-Clark’s tap-in.

Goals from David Strelec, Morgan Whittaker and Tommy Conway saw second-placed Middlesbrough remain five points behind with a 3-1 win at home to QPR, despite Nicolas Madsen’s consolatory penalty for the Hoops.

Preston moved up to third on goal difference and seven points off second-placed Middlesbrough following a 2-1 win at Oxford United, in which Jordan Storey and Daniel Jebbison netted the decisive goals before Brian De Keersmaecker denied the Lilywhites a clean sheet.

Millwall slipped to fourth with a 3-1 defeat at home to sixth-placed Hull, in which Kyle Joseph’s brace and Oli McBurnie’s effort sealed the Tigers’ win despite Aidomo Emakhu’s consolatory deficit-reducing effort for the hosts, who finished a man down after Femi Azeez’s red card.

Ipswich sat fifth after Jens Cajuste netted a 71st-minute consolatory goal in a 3-1 defeat at Leicester, as Bobby Decordova-Reid, Abdul Fatawu and Jordan Ayew netted for the hosts.

Down in the relegation zone, rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 3-0 home loss to Derby as Patrick Agyemang struck twice for the Rams, whilst Liam Thompson netted their second goal.

Second-bottom Norwich picked up a second home win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Southampton through Jovon Makama’s brace, amidst a brief equaliser from the Saints’ Ryan Manning.

Portsmouth climbed out of the bottom three at Oxford Utd’s expense after second-half goals from Callum Lang and Ibane Bowat saw them complete a comeback home win over Blackburn, after Yuki Ohashi had put the visitors into a half-time lead.

Elsewhere, Ben Pearson and Sorba Thomas fired Stoke to a 2-1 victory at home to Swansea amidst a late consolatory goal from Zan Vipotnik.

Aune Heggebo fired West Brom to a 2-0 home win over Sheffield United as he netted their 50th-minute opener, before he teed up Karlan Grant 11 minutes later to add their second goal.

Ollie Rathbone rescued Wrexham a 2-2 draw at home to Watford with his 92nd-minute equaliser, after Mamadou Doumbia cancelled out Josh Windass’ opener before Othmane Maamma put the Hornets ahead at half time.

Tyreece Campbell salvaged a 1-1 draw for Charlton away at Birmingham with his first touch in the 67th minute, after Christoph Klarer had headed the Blues into an 28th-minute lead.
