West Bromwich Albion meet relegation-battling Sheffield United in a Sky Bet Championship encounter at The Hawthorns.
Victory will lift West Brom up to 14th position until Saturday afternoon, whilst Chris Wilder’s Blades can leapfrog the Baggies into 16th in the table.
Team News
Alex Mowatt is a doubt for West Brom after he suffered a foot injury in their 3-2 midweek defeat at Southampton.
Toby Collyer (muscle), Jed Wallace (calf) and Alex Williams (ankle) remain sidelined.
Sheffield Utd will be without Sydie Peck after he missed their 1-1 draw at home to Norwich due to a calf injury.
Tom Davies (calf), Chiedozie Ogbene (hamstring) and Ben Godfrey (knee) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
West Brom host Sheffield Utd at The Hawthorns on Friday 12 December at 8pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- West Brom are winless in their last five league meetings against Sheffield Utd (D2, L3).
- Sheffield Utd have claimed seven points in their last five league trips to West Brom (W2, D1, L2).
- West Brom have conceded twice in each of their last two home games against Sheffield Utd, having lost 2-0 in October 2022 then drew 2-2 in December 2024.
- Ryan Mason’s Baggies have lost just one of their nine league games at home this season (W4, D4, L1).
- Tom Cannon has scored in Sheffield Utd’s last two away games (W2).
Prediction
After a disastrous first-half performance at Southampton defensively despite having more shots than the Saints, West Brom did well to nearly complete a second-half fightback but they will be pleased to be back at home where they’ve been strong so I expect a reaction here.
Sheffield Utd on the other hand have found form but despite several enforced changes against Norwich, they were still the dominant team which should give manager – Chris Wilder some selection headaches if those absent due to illness return.
My instinct is that this could be a close game given West Brom’s home form but Sheffield Utd have finally clicked into gear with consistency, which is what the Baggies are currently lacking so I am backing the Blades to just nick this.
Prediction: WBA 1-2 Sheffield Utd
Result: WBA 2-0 Sheffield Utd
