Victory would lift Marseille into the knockout play-off spots, whilst Newcastle could go as high as the top spot with a win depending on results elsewhere.

Stat Attack
- This is Marseille’s first Champions League meeting against Newcastle.
- Newcastle lost 2-0 in their only previous visit to Marseille in May 2004 in the semi-finals of that season’s UEFA Cup.
- Marseille are yet to concede against Newcastle in all competitions (D1, L1).
- Marseille have kept just one clean sheet in this season’s league phase (W1, L3).
- Newcastle have scored nine goals in their last three league phase matches without conceding (W3).
Prediction
With just one defeat at home this season, Marseille certainly can’t be underestimated on their own turf with players like CJ Egan-Riley, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Greenwood amongst their ranks but their league phase form has been poor so a win is vital for their chances of progression.
Newcastle meanwhile will be buoyed by how well balanced they looked with patience and composure in their attacking play against Man City, yet they defensively were able to keep it tight and frustrate the likes of Phil Foden and Erling Haaland which will give them belief coming into this tough trip.
Although Marseille will make it difficult at home, their defensive record in the Champions League phase is worrying especially when up against a more attacking Newcastle side, who should nick this especially if Gordon returns.
Prediction: Marseille 1-2 Newcastle
Result: Marseille 2-1 Newcastle
