2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week 17 – Tuesday

Middlesbrough host Coventry in a massive top of Sky Bet Championship showdown.

Victory will see Middlesbrough stay second and move to within four points of the league leaders, whilst Coventry can open a ten-point lead with a win.

Team News

Matt Targett is a doubt for Middlesbrough after he suffered a calf injury in their 1-1 draw at Oxford United.

Dael Fry (calf) is a doubt whilst Sontje Hansen Sverre Nypan and David Strelec missed the match due to fitness concerns following their returns from international duty, and it is unclear if they will be available for this match.

George Edmundson (hip), Abdoulaye Kante (hernia/groin) and Darragh Lenihan (Achilles) remain ruled out.

Coventry could welcome Luke Woolfenden back after he missed their 3-2 comeback against West Brom, due to a sickness bug.

Oliver Dovin (knee) and Haji Wright (quad) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Middlesbrough host Coventry on Tuesday 25 November at 7:45pm GMT, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Middlesbrough are winless in their last six regular-season meetings against Coventry (D1, L5).
  • Coventry have lost two of their last five regular-season trips to Middlesbrough (W2, D1, L2).
  • Middlesbrough have conceded three goals in each of their last two home games against Coventry.
  • Boro are yet to lose at home this season in the league (W5, D2), with Hayden Hackney having scored in their last two games.
  • Ephron Mason-Clark has scored in each of Coventry’s last two away matches (W1, L1).

Prediction

Despite their dominance at Oxford Utd, Boro should be disappointed to had only snatched a draw because they were wasteful against a team who clearly sat in and launched quick attacks, but that point could be key come end of season especially now Kim Hellberg is confirmed as manager.

Coventry meanwhile were lucky that their clinical quality and composure saw them recover from 2-0 down at home to West Brom in difficult conditions, but this won’t be easy because Middlesbrough are yet to lose at home this season and have the new manager bounce.

On that note, I expect Boro to have some confidence and eagerness about them to lay a marker down for Hellberg to build on when he takes training from Wednesday onwards, but Coventry should be good for a draw if they can stay focused and not worry about the opposition.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 1-1 Coventry

Result: Middlesbrough 2-4 Coventry
