England midfielder, Lucia Kendall described her senior debut as “amazing” in a 3-0 friendly victory against Australia.
Aggie Beever-Jones, Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway found the net in the Lionesses’ 3-0 friendly win over Australia at Pride Park, Derby, but Lucia Kendall quietly made an impressive impact with five chances created and two of her five shots on target,
The 21 year-old subsequently was voted player of the match by fans and in her post-match interview with ITV4, Kendall was pleased at how comfortable she felt within the starting line-up after Sarina Wiegman selected her as one of five changes from the defeat to Brazil.
“It was amazing, to be honest. Felt at home, the girls were so easy to play with. You’ve got world-class players on that pitch, so it was easy to fit in.
“Knew that I was playing last night. She just said go and enjoy it and play how I’ve been playing at club and take it all in and play with a smile on my face.”
Kendall’s family were in attendance at the match and she acknowledged their sacrifices to ensure that she fulfilled her dreams in front of a sell-out crowd, particularly alongside the squad which had successfully defended their UEFA Women’s Euro title in the summer.
“Yeah, I had my family here. It made it that much more special sharing that moment with them after they made so much sacrifice.”
“When I was a little girl you couldn’t even dream of that to be able to go out there to a sell-out crowd. Playing with a team that had just gone and won back-to-back Euros, it was really special.”
