West Ham meet Brentford in a massive London derby between two teams fighting for Premier League survival.
Victory would lift West Ham up to 18th as their inferior goal difference won’t be enough to move them out of the relegation zone, unless win by at least a four-goal margin.
Brentford can climb to 13th with a win.
Team News
Tomas Soucek is available for West Ham following completion of his three-match ban.
George Earthy (hamstring) and Niclas Fullkrug (calf) remain absent.
Brentford will be without Antoni Milambo after he suffered an ACL injury whilst on international duty for Netherlands Under-21s, which has ruled him out for the rest of this season.
Paris Maghoma (hamstring) is available following his full return to training, whilst Aaron Hickey will also be in the squad after he shook off a knock suffered on international duty for Scotland.
When is Kick-Off?
West Ham host Brentford at London Stadium on Monday 20 October at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- West Ham have claimed just four points in eight Premier League meetings against Brentford (W1, D1, L6).
- Brentford have won three of their last four trips to West Ham (W3, L1).
- Keith Andrews’ Bees have kept clean sheets in two of their four Premier League visits to West Ham, as they won 2-0 in December 2022 then 1-0 in February 2025.
- West Ham have lost all three home matches this season (L3), during which they scored twice and conceded 10 goals.
- Two of Brentford’s three top-flight away losses this season have been by 3-1 results (L3).
Prediction
Having only had a week to work with his new squad before the international break, Nuno Espirito Santo now faces a proper first test of how his style is transitioning onto the pitch at West Ham, but they must be more clinical than they were in a timid defeat at Arsenal.
Brentford meanwhile lacked much of a final touch themselves in their narrow loss to Manchester City because they did well to defend throughout the first half aside from a costly error, yet were pretty toothless when turned on the attack in the second half.
This clash therefore is hard to call because you would hope that West Ham will be fired up for their first home game under Espirito Santo, but this is their first proper fair test of delivering his style, yet Brentford have the upper hand over the Hammers in this Premier League fixture.
Goals though are tough to find for both teams but I just think that Brentford will find a way to nick this such are West Ham’s issues across the pitch at home.
Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Brentford
Result: West Ham 0-2 Brentford
