Mercedes’ George Russell is targeting second in the constructors’ championship after his victory at 2025 Singapore Grand Prix.

Russell dominated the race from pole to take his fifth F1 win and second in a night race ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, which saw Mercedes open a 27-point lead over Ferrari in the race to finish as Constructors’ Vice Champion behind McLaren who wrapped up the title on the streets of Singapore.

Red Bull however are only just 35 points behind Mercedes meaning that there is a three-way fight for the runner-up position, which could well rumble on until the season finale in Abu Dhabi on 7 December.

Russell however is confident that Mercedes can hold on to second come the conclusion of the campaign if can perform at their best in the final six rounds, which features sprint races in Austin, Texas, USA, plus Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Lusail, Qatar.

“The goal for us is to finish second in the Constructor’s Championship this year. This result helps us in that quest, but we still have six races to go.

“We will need to be at our best if we are to achieve that but hopefully we can carry this form into the double header of Austin and Mexico City.

“Congratulations to McLaren on their Constructor’s title and to Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains too.”

Mercedes’ Trackside Engineering Director, Andrew Shovlin described Russell’s victory as “fun” but warned that there is no room for relaxation if want to finish second.

“It was fun to be fighting at the front again, but we’ve got a lot of hard work ahead if we want to keep second place in this championship. It will be a tough fight with Ferrari and Red Bull, but we will be pushing to the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi.”
