2025-26 UEFA Europa League: League Phase – Feyenoord vs Aston Villa

Feyenoord meet Aston Villa in a massive league phase clash in 2025-26 UEFA Europa League.

Victory will see Feyenoord move up into the knockout play-off spots at minimum, whilst Villa can move into the top ten with a win depending on results elsewhere.

Team News

Malcom Jeng is ruled out for Feyenoord after he suffered an Achilles injury in their Eredivisie win against FC Groningen.

Quinten Timber (knock) is a doubt for selection.

Jakub Moder (back), Jordan Lotomba (knock), Thomas Beelen (leg), Jeyland Mitchell (muscle), Antef Tsoungui (knee), Gernot Trauner (Achilles), Hwang In-Beom (calf), Chris Kevin-Nadje (foot), Shiloh ‘t Zand (knee) and Gijs Samuel (unspecified) remain absent.

Villa could be without John McGinn after he suffered a knock in their 3-1 Premier League victory at home to Fulham.

Tyrone Mings (unspecified) is also doubtful and might be rested even if match fit, with Pau Torres expected to start in his place in Villa’s defence.

Ross Barkley (personal), Amadou Onana (hamstring) and Youri Tielemans (calf) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Feyenoord host Villa at De Kuip, Rotterdam, on Thursday 2 October at 9pm CEST (8pm BST), live on TNT Sports 3 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Feyenoord’s first meeting against Aston Villa in all UEFA competitions.
  • Aston Villa are making their first visit to Feyenoord in UEFA competitions.
  • Feyenoord are facing a ninth different English opponent across all UEFA competitions.
  • Villa are yet to lose away to Dutch opposition in all UEFA competitions (W1, D1), having won 4-1 at AZ Alkmaar then drew 0-0 at Ajax in 2023-24 UEFA Europa Conference League.

Prediction

Unbeaten at home so far this season with three clean sheets in four matches, Feyenoord know that this is a very winnable game but this will be their toughest test yet of the season in terms of oppositional quality.

Villa meanwhile are steadily finding their gears with consecutive wins and five goals in their last three matches after a lacklustre start to the season, with their comeback over Fulham definitely giving them some fresh confidence to bring into this game.

I however do feel that this could well be a scrappy game and wouldn’t be surprised if this ends in a draw.

Prediction: Feyenoord 1-1 Aston Villa

Result: Feyenoord 0-2 Aston Villa
