2025-26 UEFA Champions League: League Phase – Bayern Munich vs Chelsea

Bayern Munich meet Chelsea in a blockbuster league phase clash in 2025-26 UEFA Champions League.

Bayern qualified for this stage of the competition as Bundesliga champions, whilst Chelsea finished fourth in last season’s Premier League.

Team News

Raphael Guerreiro is ruled out for Bayern after he suffered an abdominal injury in their Bundesliga win over Hamburger SV.

Alphonso Davies (ACL) and Hiroki Ito (foot) are too sidelined.

Loanee, Nicolas Jackson will be eligible to feature against Chelsea in this match because loan ineligibility rules don’t apply to UEFA competitions.

Chelsea could welcome Estevao back into contention after he missed their 2-2 draw at Brentford in the Premier League, due to illness.

Benoit Badiashile (unspecified), Levi Colwill (ACL), Dario Essugo, Romeo Lavia (both thigh), Liam Delap (hamstring) and Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension) are still sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Bayern host Chelsea at Allianz Arena on Wednesday 17 September at 9pm CEST (8pm BST), live on TNT Sports 2 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Excluding penalties, Bayern have avoided defeat in four of five previous Champions League meetings against Chelsea (W3, D1, L1).
  • Chelsea are yet to beat Bayern away in the Champions League (D1, L2).
  • Bayern have never won three consecutive Champions League meetings against Chelsea.
  • Bayern are unbeaten in their last five home matches against English opposition (W4, D1).
  • Chelsea have avoided defeat in three of their last five away trips to German opposition in all UEFA competitions (W2, D1, L2).

Prediction

With 11 goals scored without reply in two home games so far this season and Harry Kane already in hot form, Bayern do look very difficult to beat such is their quality and defensive resilience, as evidenced by just two home defeats in the last 12 months across all competitions.

Chelsea though have some fond memories of past clashes at the Allianz Arena but if they lack the finishing touch as they did at Brentford last weekend, this will look a very difficult task especially with Cole Palmer only just back from a groin injury and a striker crisis.

Although Chelsea will certainly give this game a decent first, they will surely have one eye on their domestic league trip to Manchester United on Saturday which will suit a ruthless Bayern.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-1 Chelsea

Result: Bayern Munich 3-1 Chelsea
