Full-back, Rico Lewis has signed a two-year contract extension at Manchester City until June 2030.
Lewis’ contract was set to expire on 30 June 2028 but amidst interest from Nottingham Forest and Brighton, he decided to stay with City and has committed his future with a two-year contract extension until June 2030.
“Manchester City mean everything to me so to have been given the opportunity to sign this new contract is such a special moment both for me personally and my family,” explained Lewis as he spoke of his development and potential by staying at the club.
“I am still improving and developing as a player, and I know that the opportunity to carry on working with Pep, his coaching team and our amazing squad will only help me to keep getting better.
“I have spent so much of my life at this club. City means everything to me, so to be able to stay longer makes me incredibly happy.
“It’s an absolute honour and privilege to represent the Club every single day and to play in front of our fantastic fans who have always been so supportive of me.
“I will give everything to try and help us look to achieve more success both this season and beyond and with the world class squad we have, I very am excited about what the future holds for the Club.”
Lewis spent his youth career at Manchester City and made his senior debut as a substitute in August 2022 in a 4-0 Premier League victory at home to Bournemouth, just a week after he was an unused substitute at West Ham in City’s season opener.
He went on to make 23 appearances in total across that treble-winning campaign, during which he scored his first senior goal to equalise for City in an eventual 3-1 comeback Champions League victory at home to Sevilla in their final group match.
Lewis has since scored five goals in 95 appearances for City and was part of their Premier League title-winning squads in 2022-23 & 23-24 seasons, during which he also was part of their FA Cup and Champions League winning squads in the former season.
The now 20-year-old also was part of City’s UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup success in 2023 and started in their 2024 FA Community Shield success, as the Cityzens beat Manchester United on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
