Nottingham Forest have appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on a 18-month contract until June 2027.

Postecoglou’s appointment as Forest’s new manager came just hours after the club announced that they had parted company with Nuno Espirito Santo, owing to a breakdown in his relationship with owner, Evangelos Marinakis in recent weeks.

The announcement also marked a return to management for Postecoglou just three months after he was sacked at Tottenham due to their 17th-placed Premier League finish last season, despite having guided Spurs to UEFA Europa League glory in late May 2025 for their first trophy since 2008.

Confirming Postecoglou’s appointment, Marinakis issued a statement expressing that he has hired the Greek-Australian on his proven record of silverware and aims for further European success in the future under Postecoglou.

“We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.

“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”

Postecoglou’s first match in charge of Forest will take place away to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday 13 September at 12:30pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

His home bow however will not come until Saturday 27 September when Forest host Sunderland live on Sky Sports in a 5:30pm kick-off.

Postecoglou began his coaching career in Australia with Western Suburbs before he went on to manage South Melbourne, of whom he took to consecutive National Soccer League titles between 1997-99 seasons plus 1999 Oceania Club Championship.

A seven-year spell in charge of Young Socceroos followed with three consecutive OFC Championship titles between 2001 – 05 at both Under 17 and 20 levels, whilst he also guided the Under-20s to 2006 AFC Youth Championships title in 2006.

After he left the Young Socceroos in February 2007, Postecoglou spent time coaching Greece’s Panachaiki and Australia’s Whittlesea Zebras, before he joined Brisbane Roar in 2009 and led them to 2010-11 and 11-12 A League Championship titles plus Premiership title in latter season.

After a 17-month stint at Melbourne Victory, Postecoglou became Australia Men’s Head Coach in October 2013 and oversaw an evolution in the national senior team across four years – during which the Socceroos won the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Postecoglou proceeded to enjoy a stint at Yokohama F. Marinos where he led the team to 2019 J League title, before he achieved consecutive Scottish Premiership and League Cup titles with Celtic across 2021-22 and 22-23 seasons, of which the latter campaign saw Celtic achieve a domestic treble with the Scottish Cup.

His impressive spell at Celtic led Tottenham to appoint him as their manager in June 2023 which saw him go on to deliver their first silverware in 17 years in his second season in charge.
