2025-26 League One: Week Six – Cardiff vs Plymouth

Cardiff City play host to fellow relegated opposition, Plymouth Argyle in a League One clash.

Victory will see Cardiff stay top of the table, whilst Plymouth can climb to 16th with a win if Rotherham fail to win elsewhere ahead of the mid-afternoon kick-offs.

Team News

Jak Alnwick is set to return for Cardiff after he missed their Carabao Cup victory over Cheltenham due to illness.

Nathan Trott (hamstring) faces a late fitness check but David Turnbull (groin) and Alex Robertson (hamstring) are ruled out.

Plymouth could welcome defender, Brendan Galloway back from a calf injury.

Xavier Amaechi and Kornel Szucs (both knock) are doubts but Jamie Patterson (calf) and Mathias Ross (fitness) are sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Cardiff host Plymouth at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 30 August at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Cardiff have won just one of their last five meetings against Plymouth (W1, D2, L2).
  • Plymouth have won just one of their last six visits to Cardiff (W1, D2, L3).
  • Cardiff have kept clean sheets in three of their last five home games against Plymouth.
  • The Bluebirds have kept clean sheets in their last four league matches (W3, D1).
  • Plymouth have won just one of their opening five league games this season (W1, L4).

Prediction

With clean sheets in their last four league matches and having grinded out a tricky victory away at Luton, Cardiff undoubtedly are building confidence and it is hard to see what could stop them given how well they’ve clicked under Brian Barry-Murphy.

Plymouth meanwhile have endured a slow start to the season but their clinical win over Blackpool in their last league game gave them renewed confidence, which was evident in how they were able to grind out a draw at Swansea in the cup before losing on penalties.

Tom Cleverley’s Pilgrims should take heart from those two performances because if they can apply themselves here and keep building momentum, they should give Cardiff a good fight but I can see the Bluebirds grinding out another win given their home form over Plymouth.

Prediction: Cardiff 1-0 Plymouth

Result: Cardiff 4-0 Plymouth
