2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week Two – Saturday

Millwall meet Middlesbrough in a stand-out matchweek two fixture in the 2025-26 Championship.

With Millwall and Middlesbrough having both enjoyed opening-weekend wins, victory could put either team top depending on results elsewhere.

Team News

Millwall have no fresh injury concerns to report following their Carabao Cup victory at Newport but Lukas Jensen remains absent with an Achilles injury.

Middlesbrough have no fresh injury concerns to report despite suffering a 4-0 Carabao Cup exit at home to Doncaster Rovers.

When is Kick-Off?

Millwall meet Middlesbrough at The Den on Saturday 16 August at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Millwall have won three of their last six meetings against Middlesbrough (W3, L3).
  • Middlesbrough have won just one of their last six visits to Millwall (W1, D1, L3).
  • Three of Millwall’s last four meetings against Boro were settled by 1-0 results – of which the Lions won two of those three specific clashes, except for a 3-1 home loss in January 2024.
  • Millwall have kept just one clean sheet in their last five league matches (W3, L2), which came in a 1-0 win over Swansea in their last home outing in April.
  • Middlesbrough have won three of their last six league visits to London-based opposition (W3, L3).

Prediction

Having edged past Norwich in their season-opener before making changes for another grinder of a win at Newport, Millwall can come into this game with confidence knowing that they are capable of grinding out results when needed – especially given how close recent meetings have been.

Boro though will need to deliver an urgent response to a defensive shambles against Doncaster in a game which they should of won comfortably at home with little excuse, yet it instead exposed the lack of consistency which cost Boro a play-off spot in last two seasons.

Although Millwall instinctively feel likely to win this in my opinion such has been their ability to grind out victories, I do think that Boro will come up with a decent enough response to nick a draw somehow.

Prediction: Millwall 1-1 Middlesbrough

Result: Millwall 0-3 Middlesbrough
