Watford have signed defender, Max Alleyne on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

Alleyne’s loan move will mark his first proper foray into senior football after he twice was named as an eventual unused substitute in City’s first team squad in December 2023 & 2024, against Red Star Belgrade and Everton in Champions League and Premier League respectively.

He then was again named as an eventual unused substitute in Man City’s 6-0 away victory at Ipswich in January but was voted their Under-21s Player of the Season at the end of the campaign, as City clinched the Premier League 2 title.

“Max stands out for his technical ability,” commented Watford Head Coach, Paulo Pezzolano to watfordfc.com as he praised the 20-year-old for his awareness and versatility of the game

“He’s a very dynamic player and with a really good understanding of the game.

“He’s a very versatile player. Being ambidextrous, he can play on both sides of the field. In addition, even though his main position on the field is as a centre-back, he can also play in other positions.”

Pezzolano added praise to City for their academy’s quality but iterated that Watford must now build on City’s work and help Alleyne further develop his game at senior level.

“Seeing Max play, it is clear that the Man City academy is doing a great job. Now it’s our job to contribute to Max’s development, help him settle in the professional game and get the best out of him for Watford.”
