Burnley have signed goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee.

Dubravka’s arrival comes after James Trafford left Burnley to return to Manchester City who activated a buy-back clause, following Newcastle’s bid for the 22-year-old last week.

The Clarets subsequently swooped to sign an experienced Premier League replacement in Dubravka who had one-year left on his contract at Newcastle, which coincidentally is the exact length of his contract at Burnley which will expire on 30 June 2026.

“I’m delighted to be here,” commented the 36-year-old who will wear the number one shirt this season. “It’s a really exciting time to be joining this Club, ahead of our return to the Premier League.

“I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in, so I’m excited about getting going with the season kicking off next weekend.”

He added: “Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for the club in front of our passionate fans.”

The move ended a seven-and-a-half year stint on Tyneside for Dubravka who kept 51 clean sheets in 179 appearances, and was part of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup title-winning squad last season.
