Striker, Jovon Makama has departed Lincoln City to join Norwich City for an undisclosed fee.
Makama’s move comes after five years at Sincil Bank where he netted 15 goals in 97 appearances across the last three seasons, following his senior debut in a 3-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers in the first round of 2022-23 Carabao Cup.
Last season in particular proved to be a breakthrough campaign for the 21-year-old who netted 11 goals in 45 appearances for the Imps.
Following extensive negotiations, Norwich agreed an undisclosed fee for Makama who believes that now is the right time for him to step up to the Championship.
“It’s the perfect time in my career to step up and face a new challenge.”
Norwich’s Sporting Director, Ben Knapper added that the Canaries are “delighted” to sign Makama who they hope can add extra physicality up front and will continue to develop his game.
“He is a young player with a quite unique profile and big potential. He has been developing well in the last couple of years particularly and we feel he’s now ready to take the next step in his career.
“He offers obvious physicality and athleticism, and he’s able to operate in multiple roles offensively. He’s a really interesting player and he’s someone that will offer something different for us.
“We’re excited to see how we can help improve and develop him further, and we’re sure he’ll fit into the group we’ve built here really well.”
Lincoln City’s Head Coach, Michael Skubala wished Makama well as he praised his team for their work to nurture the striker into a top potential future talent.
“This is great for Jovon, his family and the club. Young players need time and patience, as well as an elite environment, for them to develop.
“That is what the club has provided for Jovon over the past six years and over the past few months, Jovon’s progress has been demonstrated by his level of performance.
“This has been accelerated in the past couple of seasons, but the hard work started way before that.
“Everyone at the EPC, players and staff, should take credit for this outcome, especially Tom Shaw, who has coached Jovon throughout his entire time at Lincoln City. We wish Jovon every success in the next step of his career at a top Championship club.”
Makama began his career at Derby County in their youth setup before he joined the Imps in 2020, before he spent 2021-22 season on loan at Gainsborough Trinity with eight goals in 24 appearances.
After his professional debut for the Imps in August 2022, he was loaned out to Brackley Town where he only managed five appearances before he was recalled in January 2023.
