Accrington Stanley meet Oldham Athletic in a preliminary round tie in the 2025-26 Carabao Cup.
Victory would see Accrington Stanley or Oldham host Peterborough United in the first round.
Team News
Accrington Stanley have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-1 draw at home to Gillingham last weekend in League Two.
Oldham also have no fresh injury concerns to report after they drew 0-0 at MK Dons last Saturday.
When is Kick-Off?
Accrington Stanley host Oldham at Wham Stadium on Tuesday 5 August at 7:45pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Accrington Stanley lost their only previous meeting against Oldham in this competition, which came in a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat in the Second Round of 2021-22 edition after a 0-0 away draw.
- Oldham are making their first Carabao Cup trip to Accrington Stanley.
- Accrington have won just one of their last seven opening ties in this competition (W1, L6), albeit at first round stage rather than this preliminary stage.
- Oldham have won two of their last five opening ties in this competition (W2, L3), albeit at first round stage rather than this preliminary stage.
Prediction
Despite their awful opening round record in the last seven editions of this competition, Accrington now need to take the positives from their gutsy draw against Gillingham and show more quality from early on if they want to reach the proper first round.
Having begun life back in the EFL with a scrappy goalless draw at MK Dons in which they had the only shot on target, Oldham now need to bring more quality if they’re to win this preliminary round as the likely squad rotation give a chance for some to step up and stake a starting spot claim.
On that note, it feels tricky to call a winner so I can see this going to penalties with Oldham perhaps having the edge given their slightly better recent form in this competition.
Prediction: Accrington 1-1 Oldham (Oldham to win on penalties)
Result: Accrington 3-1 Oldham
