UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: Quarter-Finals – France vs Germany

France meet Germany in a blockbuster concluding Quarter-Final of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.

France progressed to this stage as Group D winners without defeat, whilst Germany finished second in Group C.

Team News

France have no fresh injury concerns to report after their comeback win over Netherlands in their last Group D match,

Germany will be without Carlotta Wamser following her red card in their 4-1 loss to Sweden in their concluding Group C match.

Giulia Gwinn remains sidelined with a medial collateral ligament injury.

When is Kick-Off?

France meet Germany at St Jakob-Park, Basel, Switzerland, on Saturday 19 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • France have lost all three previous meetings against Germany at UEFA Women’s Euro (L3).
  • Germany won their only previous UEFA Women’s Euro knockout tie against France (W1), as they prevailed 2-1 at the semi-final stage in 2022 en-route to their runner-up finish.
  • France have progressed from just one of their four previous Quarter-Final appearances since this stage was introduced in 2009 (W1, L3).
  • Germany have suffered just one exit at this stage in four editions (W3, L1) – which saw them lose 2-1 to eventual runners-up, Denmark in 2017.
  • France haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last four matches (W4).
  • Germany have never lost two matches within a single UEFA Women’s Euro edition.

Prediction

Despite their recent defensive issues against top teams, France clearly have the attack capable of terrorising opposition if everything click and they can dominate the attacking press, which was evident in how they soaked up England’s early pressure in their opener then snatched control with ease.

Germany meanwhile will be hell hath no fury like an eight-time champion scorned after their defensive meltdown against Sweden following their early opener, so a massive reaction will be needed here but Wamser and Gwinn’s absences means that the right-back spot could be vulnerable for French attacks.

In fact Germany’s fury might just suit France if they can sit back with defensive robustness and let Germany attack like England did, before unleashing their terrorising press upon Germany’s defence but this will be a fiercely close game and I fancy the French to just stop their German hoodoo.

Prediction: France 2-1 Germany

Result: France 1-1 Germany (Germany win 6-5 on penalties)
