Nobbs Joins Newcastle on Free Transfer

Midfielder, Jordan Nobbs has joined Newcastle United Women on a free transfer from Aston Villa. 

Nobbs was released by Villa at the end of last season after she scored seven goals in two-and-a-half years for the Villains following her move from Arsenal, where she had spent 12-and-a-half years between 2010 – January 2023.

The move also sees Nobbs move away from a Women’s Super League (WSL) club for the first time since the league officially began in 2011, which excites her as she recognises Newcastle’s ambitions to reach the WSL.

“I think they are a very ambitious club and, speaking to everyone, the goal is to get promoted and push women’s football in the North East. I want to be part of that.

“I’ve always had a winning mentality, and it’s the same mentality here, every game is like a cup final. I want to be part of a successful club that push to the next level.”

Magpies’ manager, Becky Langley added that the Stockton-born midfielder will bring experience and quality to the squad ahead of the WSL2 season.

“Jordan’s experience speaks for itself. She knows what it takes to win and has achieved so much in her career, both domestically and internationally, and we are absolutely delighted that she is joining Newcastle United.

“She has long been one of the best midfielders in the country and she will undoubtedly bring a lot of quality to our squad.

“She is hungry to achieve success with this club, and we can’t wait to work with her.”

Nobbs began her career with Newcastle’s arch-rivals, Sunderland and was part of the Black Cats’ title-winning FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division in 2008-09 season, before she moved to Arsenal.

During her time in North London, Nobbs was part of the Gunners’ WSL title winning squad in 2011, 2012 and 18-19 seasons, whilst she also contributed to five Women’s League Cup and four Women’s FA Cup Cup crowns.

Nobbs scored eight goals in 71 senior caps for England as the Lionesses won 2013 & 15 Cyprus Cup titles, followed by 2022 & 23 Arnold Clark Cup trophies and the 2023 Women’s Finalissima.
