Roundup of the final round of group matches at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 as the Group Stage drew to its conclusion.
Although Norway, Spain, Sweden and Germany had secured their spots in the Quarter-Finals, several spots remained wide open in a thrilling round of group games, which saw last-gasp equalisers, goals-filled battles and a red card as final positions were denied.
Group A
Norway progressed as Group A winners after braces from Signe Gaupset and Frida Maanum saw them come from 1-0 down to beat bottom-placed Iceland 4-3, after Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir put the Icelandic side ahead before Hlin Eiriksdottir and Glodis Viggosdottir netted consolatory goals.
Riola Xhemaili’s 92nd-minute equaliser saw Switzerland progress as Group A runners-up on goal difference with a 1-1 draw against Finland, after Natalia Kuikka’s 79th-minute penalty had momentarily put the Finnish on course for second in the group.
Group B
Athenea del Castillo, Patricia Guijarro and Esther Gonzalez’ comeback goals saw Spain secure top spot with a 3-1 fightback to beat Italy, after Elisabetta Oliviero’s strike put the Italians into a shock tenth-minute lead.
Italy ultimately progressed as Group B runners-up after Portugal lost 2-1 to Belgium thanks to Janice Cayman’s 96th-minute winner for the Belgian Red Flame, although Tessa Wullaert’s opener was initially cancelled out by Telma Encarnacao’s equaliser.
