Crystal Palace have signed left-back, Borna Sosa from Ajax for £3m.
Sosa’s move comes after new Ajax manager, John Heitinga decided that the 27-year-old Croatian wasn’t part of his long-term plans at the Eredivisie club, which allowed Palace to sign him for just £3m with Sosa having now signed a three-year contract at Selhurst Park until June 2028.
Upon confirmation of his move, Sosa commented: “I’m very excited to join Crystal Palace. I’ve heard so many good things about the club. I cannot wait to meet the players, the staff, and all of the fans, because I’ve heard so many good things. I’m very, very excited to be here.”
Chairman, Steve Paris added that the club believes that Sosa will fit in at Palace with his quality.
“We believe Borna will be a fantastic fit for Crystal Palace. His credentials speak for themselves, and his arrival adds additional quality, experience and depth to our squad.”
Sosa began his senior career at Dinamo Zagreb where he made 41 appearances as part of the team which won 2015-16 & 17-18 Prva HNL and Croatian Cup titles, before he moved to VfB Stuttgart in summer 2018, where he scored five goals in 115 appearances across a five-year spell.
The Croatian subsequently joined Ajax in September 2023 but only managed 25 appearances in all competitions, before he was loaned to Italy’s Torino last season, in a campaign which saw him only manage 20 appearances for the Serie A club.
Sosa represents Croatia at international level and graduated into the senior squad in August 2021 and has since scored twice in 26 senior caps, plus was part of the team which finished third at 2022 FIFA World Cup then runner-up in 2022-23 UEFA Nations League.
