Middlesbrough legend, Alan Peacock has died at the age of 87 after a near-four-year battle with dementia.
Peacock announced in August 2021 that he had been diagnosed with dementia and after a near-four-year battle, he passed away last weekend with his family by his side.
Peacock scored 141 goals in 238 matches for Middlesbrough in a ten-year stint between 1954-1964 as a forward, before he went on to play for Leeds United with whom he won promotion in 64-65 season, and scored 38 goals in 79 appearances across four seasons despite injuries.
He concluded his career at Plymouth Argyle where he spent the 1967-68 season before injuries forced him to retire, and he returned to his hometown to run a newsagent in Ormesby,
In a statement announcing Peacock’s passing, Middlesbrough issued a short tribute.
“The thoughts of everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club are with Alan’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Peacock represented England between 1962 – 65 in which he scored three goals in six senior caps.
