Ruud van Nistelrooy has parted company with Leicester City after eight months at the club.

Van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper in November 2024 with the Foxes sat 16th in the Premier League but he oversaw a run of one point in 11 matches from February – April, despite experiencing a mini end-of-season revival with seven points in his final four games in charge.

Leicester’s relegation back to the Championship however had been confirmed by that point and the club have now officially announced their decision to part company with Van Nistelrooy, ahead of pre-season commencing on 30 June.

Upon confirmation of his departure, Van Nistelrooy issued a statement thanking the club for their efforts during his time in charge.

“I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the Club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the Club well for the future.”

During his 27 matches in charge across all competitions, the Dutchman oversaw just five wins, including a 6-2 victory over QPR in the FA Cup’s third-round.
