2025 UEFA Under-21s Euro: Group Stage – Matchday Two Roundup

Roundup of the second matchday in the group stage of 2025 UEFA Under-21s Euro, as England continued their title defence. 

After an exciting first matchday, several teams came into the second round of group matches with a chance to secure their knockout places with a game to spare – including England who faced a difficult encounter against Slovenia.

 

Group A

Late goals from Mikel Jauregizar and Roberto Fernandez saw Spain come from behind to beat Romania and stay top of Group A with a 2-1 win and qualify for the knockout stages, having fell behind to a fourth-minute goal from Louis Munteanu.

Cesare Casadei netted a seventh-minute winner as Italy scraped past Slovakia to secure their qualification for the knockout stage.

Group B

Nicolo Tresoldi, Paul Nebel, Nick Woltemade and Eric Martel found the net for Germany who qualified for the knockout stages with a 4-2 win over Czech Republic to stay top of Group B, despite Bright Arrey-Mbi’s own-goal and Karel Spacil’s effort halving the Czechs’ deficit.

England have knockout qualification in their own hands after they were held to a goalless draw by Slovenia.

Group C

Geovany Quenda’s first-half brace fired Portugal top of Group C with a 5-0 demolition of Poland which eliminated the latter, during which Henrique Araujo, Paulo Bernardo and Rodrigo Gomes also found the net.

France moved up to second and kept their knockout dreams alive with comeback goals from Thierno Barry and Johann Lepenant in a 3-2 win over Georgia, after new Tottenham signing – Mathys Tel opened the scoring before Giorgi Abuashvili and Saba Sazonov put Georgia ahead.

Group D

William Osula’s brace saw Denmark come from behind to secure their knockout qualification with a 2-1 win over Netherlands, after the Dutch had taken a 19th-minute lead through Oliver Provstgaard’s own-goal.

Ukraine put qualification in their own hands going into their final group match against Netherlands, after Vladyslav Vanat and Maksym Braharu netted in a 2-0 victory over Finland.
