Five Key Pointers
- Traction out of corners and maximum speed will be key to nailing a flying lap, yet will be key to defending on the straights within the race..
- Although top speed is more favourable around here, teams will also need to find a low-medium downforce setup which protects the tyres due to low grip levels within corners.
- Track evolution across the weekend is set to be high with the circuit only used for this race weekend every year.
- Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a low downforce circuit like Monaco so expect Ferrari and Red Bull to once again challenge McLaren throughout the weekend.
- Although the C6 tyre compound will be brought to Montreal, it isn’t expected to be used in the race unless it shows surprise race suitability in the FP2 race simulations.
Last Time Out
Verstappen won F1’s visit to Canada in 2024 en-route to his fourth title after he benefitted from a strategic error by McLaren to jump Norris for victory on Lap 27 under the safety car, which was effectively sealed on Lap 47 as Norris skidded as he exited the pits after he again attempted to overcut Verstappen.
