Bronze Believes England are “one of the most adaptable teams in the world”

England defender, Lucy Bronze believes that the Lionesses are “one of the most adaptable teams in the world”, ahead of their UEFA Women’s Nations League showdown against Spain.

England will meet Spain at RCDE Stadium, Barcelona, on Tuesday 3 June in their top of League A3 showdown where the Lionesses must win to top the group, whereas Spain simply need to just avoid defeat to continue their title defence.

Bronze joined manager, Sarina Wiegman in the pre-match press conference where she reflected on England’s progress since their loss to Spain in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, as she now believes that the Lionesses are more capable of adapting their tactics.

“I think we’re probably one of the most adaptable teams in the world. We can counter attack, press the ball, we can play in behind.

“We’ve got fast players, technical players. We’ve faced Spain a few times, before Sarina was even here.

“You have to turn up for every game, for every game because so many teams are capable of so many things. We can change against different teams but you have to put on the performance on the game.

“If you lose a bit of yourself, then the other team performs. We know how to beat Spain and they know how to beat us.”

Bronze even considers both teams to be “pretty even” coming into this clash ahead the deadline for naming their UEFA Women’s Euro squads, where England will seek to defend their title in Switzerland in July, but believes that the Lionesses have confidence from their home win over Spain in February.

“A lot of confidence but we already gave beaten them this year so we’ve got a lot of confidence from that. That Spain performance from us in Wembley was brilliant.

“You can find things to gain confidence from. It’s not the be all and end all tomorrow, in terms of the Nations League it is.

“We might not even face Spain in the Euros. We get confidence from ourselves and others.”

Bronze however admitted that Spain’s squad looks “slightly stronger” than in February with Alexia Putellas plus Patri Guijarro both back, but is pleased that both squads will be able to mingle a bit given that a lot of their players met in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season.
