2024-25 Premier League: Week 37 – Brighton vs Liverpool

Brighton look to boost their chances of a top-eight finish in a Premier League encounter against Liverpool.

At least one point would see Brighton move up to eighth in the table and put their fate in their own hands on the final day, although European qualification is out of their hands and need Chelsea to finish seventh plus win UEFA Conference League.

Liverpool are already champions regardless of the result.

Team News

Lewis Dunk is available for Brighton after he missed the Seagulls’ win at Wolves last weekend with a hamstring injury.

Joel Veltman was also absent in that game due to a knock but is available for selection.

Joao Pedro is available after he completed his three-match suspension, having been red carded in their defeat at Brentford last month.

Georginio Rutter (ankle), Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), Solly March (knee) and James Milner (hamstring) remain sidelined.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-2 draw against Arsenal, with only Joe Gomez (hamstring) ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Brighton host Liverpool at AMEX Stadium on Monday 19 May at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Prediction

Although any prospect of European football is out of their hands, Brighton simply need to capitalise upon Brentford’s loss to Fulham to at least put eighth in their own hands and play as clinically as they did at Wolves but be just as resilient defensively because this won’t be an easy game against top opposition.

Liverpool though are currently able to experiment and mix up their line-ups as saw in their away loss to Chelsea a fortnight ago, but they bounced back with a clinical first-half against Arsenal before defensive errors allowed the Gunners to snatch a point.

I am finding it tricky to predict how this could play out given Liverpool’s freedom to do what they want in this game without any pressure, but if Brighton can use Brentford’s loss as motivation to chase control of eighth going into the final day then they might just nick this.

Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Liverpool

Result: Brighton 3-2 Liverpool
