2024-25 Premier League: Week 37 – Chelsea vs Man Utd

Chelsea look to boost their top-five ambitions alive in a Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Victory will see Chelsea climb to fourth in the table irrespective of what Aston Villa do elsewhere, whilst Man Utd look to move up to 14th in the table with a win.

Team News

Nicolas Jackson is suspended for Chelsea after he was red carded in their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Jadon Sancho is ineligible to face his parent club, having joined on a season-long loan in late August 2024.

Christopher Nkunku (knock), Wesley Fofana (muscle), Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension), Aaron Anselmino, Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman (all hamstring) are still sidelined.

Man Utd will be without defender, Leny Yoro after he suffered a foot injury in their 2-0 loss at home to West Ham.

Tobias Collyer (leg) and Jonny Evans (muscle) are doubts for selection.

Ayden Heaven (ankle), Diogo Dalot (calf), Joshua Zirkzee (hamstring), Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt (both knee) are still sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Chelsea host Man Utd at Stamford Bridge on Friday 16 May at 8:15pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won just one of their last 14 league meetings against Man Utd (W1, D8, L5)
  • Man Utd have lost just one of their last six league visits to Chelsea (W1, D4, L1)
  • Chelsea are looking for consecutive top-flight wins at home over Utd for the first time since October 2016 – November 2017, when won 4-0 and 1-0 respectively.
  • Pedro Neto has produced more crosses in the league than any other Chelsea player this season (140).
  • No African goalkeeper has made more errors which led to goals this season than Man Utd’s Andre Onana (3).

Prediction

Now in need of a win after a pretty disappointing display compounded by Jackson’s red card in their defeat at Newcastle, Chelsea need to be more composed and clinical if want to keep the top-five dreams alive but they undoubtedly defended well to keep the losing margin down to just two goals.

Man Utd meanwhile were toothless against a more energetic West Ham despite having mustered up more shots than the Hammers, which has to be a concern for Ruben Amorim such is their inconsistency and selective motivation which is just basic disrespect to fans and the club’s history.

Although Stamford Bridge has been a solid away trip for Utd in recent seasons, that selective motivation will cost them here because the Europa League Final is their priority, so this should be a routine home win for Chelsea even without a regular striker but I can see them making a hard task out of it.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd

Result: Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd
