Five Key Pointers

  • Given Imola’s similarity to Suzuka in terms of on-track overtaking difficulty, McLaren need a clean Q3 if want to avoid ensuring a potential repeat of the Japanese GP.
  • With Pirelli bringing a new C6 tyre for the first time, teams will be eager to understand its durability across a single flying lap with little expectation that it will be suitable for the race unless there is a very late safety car.
  • Having seen Flavio Briatore assume control following Oliver Oakes’ exit and the decision to drop Jack Doohan for Franco Colapinto, Alpine will look to bounce back with a strong performance.
  • After a strong performance in Miami, Mercedes will hope that their new update package will put them closer to Red Bull on pace at Antonelli’s home race.
  • Many teams will be bringing their first big proper upgrades to this race so a clean weekend will be key to gathering data and unlocking fresh performance levels.

Last Time Out

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen dominated this race in 2024 from pole aside from three laps in the pit window but eventually clung on to victory, after Norris had closed the gap down to under one second at the checkered flag.
