England Women’s assistant coach, Arjan Veurink has been appointed as Netherlands Women’s manager.
Veurink previously was part of Sarina Wiegman’s coaching team in charge of the Dutch team from 2017 – 21, under which the Oranje won 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro on home soil, then finished runners-up to USA in 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
He joined Wiegman as part of her coaching staff following her move to England and replicated those feats as the Lionesses won the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro, before they then finished runners-up to Spain at the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
During his time with England, the Lionesses also won 2023 Finalissima and two Arnold Clark Cup titles on their home turf.
Veurink now has decided to return to management and accepted the KNVB’s offer to become the new manager of their women’s team following this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euros, thus marking a return to management for the first time since he left Twente in 2016.
England issued a statement on the Lionesses’ X account confirming Veurink’s upcoming exit but iterated that he ‘remains a highly valued member of Sarina’s team, and maintains complete focus’ on their UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign plus their title defence at this summer’s Euros.

Speaking to the Netherlands’ FA website following confirmation of his appointment as manager, Veurink described the job as “a great challenge and wonderful new adventure,” but also “a logical next step” for his career, having learned a lot under Wiegman.
“I have never made a secret of the fact that I once wanted to be the person in charge of the Dutch national team. With more than eight years of experience at the highest level as Sarina Wiegman’s right-hand man, first with the Netherlands and now in England, I am ready to stand on my own two feet.
“The fact that this opportunity is now occurring in the Netherlands makes it extra special. I will now do everything I can to end the coming months in England in style, to start this new chapter after the European Championships in Zeist.”
