2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week 42 – Saturday

Relegation-battling Plymouth face promotion-chasing Sheffield United in a massive showdown with implications at both ends of the Championship.

Victory will move Plymouth to within two points of safety before the mid-afternoon kick-offs, whilst Sheffield Utd can go top if Leeds and Burnley both lose elsewhere this weekend.

Team News

Plymouth have no fresh injury concerns to report coming into this match after a 3-0 loss at Swansea in midweek.

Brendan Galloway (leg) and Maksym Talovierov (knee) are still sidelined.

Sheffield Utd could welcome Harry Clarke (foot) and Tom Davies (fitness) back into contention.

Oliver Arblaster (ACL), Rhys Norrington-Davies (groin) and Jamie Shackleton (foot) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Plymouth host Sheffield Utd at Home Park on Saturday 12 April at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports … in the UK.

Prediction

Now five points adrift of safety after a poor first-half performance at Swansea where a win would of certainly closed their gap  down to just two points, Plymouth now need to produce a more resilient defensive display and crucially be clinical if want to snatch an unlikely win otherwise survival will be a massive ask.

Sheffield Utd once again just weren’t clinical enough in their narrow loss to Millwall but given their superior quality, this is a must-win because they can’t afford for Burnley and Leeds to escape their grasp if want automatic promotion which means that a polished end product is a must here.

Plymouth though will be dangerous after their midweek embarrassment but if Chris Wilder’s Blades can weather any early storms, I can see an away win coming ahead of four crucial final games of the season.

Prediction: Plymouth 0-1 Sheffield Utd

Result: Plymouth 2-1 Sheffield Utd
