2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week 40 – Saturday

Coventry entertain Burnley in a huge showdown in the race for promotion in the Championship.

Victory will see Coventry stay fifth for another matchweek, whilst Burnley can go top before Sheffield United play in the 3pm kick-offs if Leeds slip up at Luton in the other lunchtime kick-off.

Team News

Oliver Dovin is ruled out for Coventry after he suffered a knee injury in their 3-1 loss at Sheffield Utd last weekend.

Josh Eccles (calf), Liam Kitching (illness) and Brandon Thomas-Asante (pelvis) are doubts for selection.

Burnley have no fresh injury concerns to report following their victory over Bristol City last weekend.

Bashir Humphreys (quad), Jonjo Shelvey, Mike Tresor (both unspecified), Jordan Beyer and Aaron Ramsey (both knee) are still ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Coventry host Burnley at CBS Arena on Saturday 5 April at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.

Prediction

With three teams now just two points off Coventry’s fifth position in the race for the play-off spots, Lampard need to find a way to get his Sky Blues refocused after a difficult defeat at Sheffield Utd but their home form will certainly provide renewed belief coming into a game where they must be clinical.

Burnley though are resilient defensively with just five league goals conceded since their defeat at Millwall in early November and clinically saw off Bristol City last time out, underlining just how well-organised this team is at both ends of the pitch even when not firing on all goalscoring cylinders.

Given what is at stake for both teams coming into this clash, I expect an initially cagey start but if Coventry can tighten up at the back then they might get a result.

Prediction: Coventry 1-1 Burnley

Result: Coventry 1-2 Burnley
